{Piece by Piece} Leann's Bedroom

So let's get Monday rocking with a little ditty I like to call "Piece by Piece". This will be a regular feature and it's chock full of info to help you find the products you see in the room, or just give you some design inspiration. Questions are welcome if you need more specifics.

Most of these will be rooms I have done, but as we grow, we'll take some reader submissions, or create personalized "piece by piece" segments based on requests. I'll also include a budget breakdown at the end. So exciting!! Let's get started...

Leann's Bedroom

One of my favorites for the cutest little blue-eyed, brown-haired girl you ever did see. At 6 years old, she was all girl, all hot pink, and all frills. Now she can dress up in her vintage hats and TWIRL TWIRL TWIRL in front of those mirrors. (I've been watching too many episodes of Real Housewives).

Mom and Dad wanted a room that would grow with her. No over the top themes or toddler decor. Something that would take her into her early teens. This room was a combination of re-purposed items and brand-spanking new items. We did have a budget, so we invested heavily into the bed and drapes, and used our creative genius to put the rest together. 'Cuz that's we do:). BAM!!.

So let's break it down:

  1. Hot Pink Microfiber "Dots" Bedspread, Pillow Shams, and Body Pillow - Bed, Bath & Beyond
  2. Queen Size Upholstered Headboard and Platform Storage Bed Frame from Pottery Barn
  3. Wall Color: Toasted Almond 414-3 and Trim Color: Obelisk 415-7 from Pittsburgh Paints
  4. Pink Taffeta Panels and Custom Cornices by White Street Market
  5. DIY Artwork - Frames from IKEA, Scrapbook Paper from Archivers
  6. Pink Feather Lamp - Hobby Lobby

  1. Bulletin Board: Painted the frame black, attached a pink feather boa to the frame for a one-of-a-kind display area.
  2. Word Art: Purchase papier mache letters at your local craft store. Find several coordinating scrapbook papers and Mod-Podge onto letters. Hang with 3M sticky tabs. (Mod Podge is not my friend - best if I don't give you any advice on this one.;))
  3. Repurposed Desk & Chair: We found this great desk and chair at a thrift store and painted it up for a pop of turquoise to coordinate with the cornices. Custom upholstery on the seat also coordinates.

  1.  I found these great hooks at Hobby Lobby and painted them to match the room. The vintage hats were purchased at an antique store and Leann loves to wear them for dress-up, plus they look adorable hanging on the wall!
  2. Vintage Chandelier: I've always wanted to use one of these in my decor, but have never found a use for it. How cute is this??? In it's original condition and color, it's the perfect bright spot for a cozy little reading corner!
  3.  Another re-purposed item - the wicker chair was sprayed white and accented with a pillow for a pop of color.
  4. The rug contains every color in the room. Don't be afraid to mix your patterns - it's always fun to have floral, stripe and a geometric playing well together in one space!

  1. We really wanted to provide Leann with somewhere to store her "treasures" so she could hide them from her brothers. This cute little trunk was in bad shape so we painted and distressed it, and added some new hardware. Now it's the perfect little treasure chest.
  2. The bookshelf is from IKEA. It sits nicely on top of the chest and we anchored it to the wall for safety.

Budget Breakdown:

  • Drapes: $1100
  • Bed: purchased by client
  • Painting Room and Trim: $400
  • Accessories/Furnishings: $750
So there you have it - A dream room fit for a princess for many years to come!
